Security At Stansted Airport ...

Because of increased security measures be prepared to queue at all your passing points - the check-in desks, security control and your boarding gate.

As a result of this please be aware of the advised check-in times - see our Preparation Guide for more advice and unofficial information.

All of Stansted's security precautions are carried out for the safety of all passengers and visitors.

Therefore help by ensuring you keep your luggage with you at all times and alert Airport staff if you see any suspicious or unattended packages or bags.

Security Control And Boarding ...

For entry into the Departure Lounges, all passengers will have to pass through security control. Here you must show your boarding card and your passport will be inspected.

Passengers then move on to have their hand luggage screened, along with themselves.

For more advice on those items of luggage that are not allowed then visit our Restricted and Prohibited Items of Luggage Guide.

Hand luggage needs to be put through the x-ray machine. As do other items such as handbags, jackets, coats, cameras, computers, mobile phones, calculators, etc.

Metallic items like keys, coins and certain types of belt buckles also have to pass through the x-ray machine. Passengers then pass through an archway metal detector.

Passengers with pacemakers should request a hand search. Wheelchair users will also require a hand Search.

The metal detector is safe for pregnant women, although they can opt to request a hand search.

Occasionally passengers are picked at random for hand searches at security control or towards the Departure Gate.

Connecting Flights ...

Some flights, when changing aircraft, require passengers to collect their baggage for additional screening before checking-in to a connecting flight.

Allow plenty of time between flights for such check-in rather than browsing the airport facilities.
