Stansted Lost Luggage ... |
|
|
|
|
| |
| The British Airports Authority clearly states that each individual airline is responsible for the care, management and security of your bags. |
| |
- Immediately report your lost bags to the Lost Baggage desk at the airport.
|
| You'll need to describe your bags when lost to the Lost Baggage desk. Then you'll be given a reference number to track the progress of your lost luggage by phone or online. |
| |
| You might be required to list the contents of your bags as well as providing original receipts for these items. The airline will then act like an insurance company. Unfortunately, like any insurance claim your settlement is unlikely to fully cover the goods lost. |
| |
| Some airlines won't confirm your luggage as lost until they've been missing for a set amount of time - British Airways confirms this after 21 days. |
| |
| After this you should be entitled to compensation from your airline, at around £800 per person in line with the Montreal Convention. |
| |
| It may be you're advised to make your claim via your travel insurance so they try not to pay out, but most travel insurance policies won't cover any baggage stowed in the hold. |
| |
| Connecting Flights |
| |
If your flight has meant you've travelled on several different flights you are entitled to claim against all airlines. However, they will also pass the blame onto the previous or next airline who where carrying your luggage.
When they do so they are in breach of the Montreal Convention. |
| |
| Limited Release Tags |
| |
Try and avoid any of your luggage being checked in with a Limited Release Tag (LRT) - normally musical instruments, sporting equipment (surfboards) or prams and buggies.
This is because the LRT aims to remove any liability by the airline should the item be damaged. Note however, that when an airline accepts an item as checked baggage it has to accept liability as set out in the Montreal Convention. |

Help With Delayed Luggage ... |
|
|
|
| |
|
| |
| The Montreal Convention says that passengers baggage is 'delayed' for 21 days. It is then reported as missing. |
|
| |
|
| |
When you experienced delayed baggage a few airlines offer passengers an immediate one-off payment that covers emergency goods like toiletries and underwear.
Other issue a set amount of money per day up, capped at a maximum number of days. Others require you to make the purchases and claim via receipts.
Either way, they must help you cover essential costs incurred as a result of the delay experienced. |
|
| |
| |
| After the 21 days luggage is deemed lost and you can start your insurance claim. |

Stansted Damaged Baggage... |
|
|
|
| |
|
| |
When assessing claims for any damaged luggage most airlines make a payment based on the value of the damaged contents and or suitcase.
Original receipts may also be requested for the indivdual items. When working out your compensation a scale of depreciation will be applied to the amount.
Should just the suitcase or bag be damaged you will be offered a replacement from the store cupboard. |

Stansted Airport Stolen Items ... |
|
|
|
| |
|
| |
It's very difficult to get any compensation for specific items that have been .stolen from your luggage as it's so difficult to prove,
Therefore, if you are travelling with valuable items it's best to pack these in your hand luggage. Also, because they might not be covered by your travel insurance when in main luggage.
Any items packed in your luggage that are listed as “items unacceptable as baggage” the airline won't let you claim against them so do check the T&Cs before flying. |

| If your luggage goes missing it would have been helpful if you've applied some of the following tips: |
| |
- Make an inventory of everything in your case, along with a value, should your bags get lost
- Include a name and address label in your luggage should the luggage label on the outside of your bag falls off
- Flymycase offers a transport service for your luggage anywhere in the world for a small charge
- Keep receipts for things packed in your cases as and when you can
- Pack mobile phones, jewellery or cameras in your hand luggage as many airlines do not deem such items as 'acceptable baggage items'
- Travel with travel insurance and make sure it covers any accidents or losses to your bags - check out our Travel Insurance Page
- Try to buy brightly coloured and distinctive luggage as this will prevent other passengers from mistaking your bags as theirs and will also deter thieves!
